Greenburgh, New York

Greenburgh is a town in Westchester County, in the New York metro area. The community name believed to derive from Dutch "Greinburgh," for "grain town." Roughly half of Greenburgh's population lies within the town's six incorporated villages. The rest of the population lives in the unincorporated area of the town of Greenburgh, outside any villages.

Unincorporated Greenburgh
Unincorporated Greenburgh consists of the formerly rural areas of
the township outside the villages. While
hamlets are not recognized as municipal entities in New York State,
most properties in Unincorporated Greenburgh are classified within one
of the township's three federally recognized zones, each known as a
census-designated place. In Unincorporated Greenburgh, these three
CDPs generally correspond to a
fire district.
