Harrison, New York

Harrison is located in Westchester County north east of New Rochelle and west of Yonkers between Rye and Mamaroneck near Long Island Sound. Harrison benefits from the progressive environment fostered by the State University of New York at Purchase. The PepsiCo Sculpture Garden, across the street from the universtiy, includes 40 sculptures on 112 acres landscaped by noted garden designer Russell Page. Harrison is northeast of New York City off I-95. Harrison is part of the New York, New York metro area. Founded in 1696 by Quaker John Harrison, the Town of Harrison occupies 22 square miles in southern Westchester County, approximately 23 miles northeast of New York City. With the advent of the railroad in 1870, the town became a favorite country and summer retreat for wealthy New Yorkers. Today, Harrison has a population of 24,500, including 2,000 residing in the beautiful Hamlet of Purchase, yet it still retains a rural country atmosphere. Acres of green rolling land interspersed with brooks, streams and lakes surround pretty village neighborhoods and some of the country's most magnificent estates.
